Intercountry adoption
is one of the most sought ways to be parents. China, Russia, Ethiopia,
Colombia, Ukraine and India are the main countries where children are being
adopted.
Spain remains at the
forefront worldwide in such adoptions even though they have cut approximately a
2.17% compared with the percentage of 2005. That year had increased by 43%
compared to 2004.
A very important advantage
for these adoptions is the Treaty of The Hague. It regulates the
procedures for requesting an international adoption in one of the member
countries of the treaty.
Moreover, in 2006 adopted a
blueprint in Spain through which unified the laws of the autonomous communities
to take power. Its purpose is to regulate the process of adoption
abroad.
Documentation
required for the adoption
In adopting those interested
must submit the following documents:
· Birth Certificate.
· Certificate of
physical and mental health.
· Certificate
criminal record.
· Certificate of
economic solvency.
· Certificate
evidencing the legal entry of minors in Spain, according to the immigration
law.
· Photograph of
applicants, family and the environment.
· Photograph size
card for each applicant.
· Birth Certificate
for children of the applicants, if any, and were required by the country.
· The marital status
must be substantiated by certificate issued in the civil register.
· Letters of
recommendation. These vary from 2-3 depending on the country.
· They may be the
work environment, the family environment or friends.
· Certificate of
residence.
· In some cases,
income tax returns.
· Copies of
passports in countries which are not European.
Collaborating
Bodies in Intercountry Adoption (ECAI)
They are associations,
foundations and other non-profit organizations. They are accredited by the
autonomous communities and countries of origin of the children.
The statutes of the order ECAIs
appears as the protection of minors and intemediación between people who choose
to adopt and places of origin of the adoptive parents.
One of its main functions is
to help families get the application for adoption. It consists of the
psycho-social report, the certificate of fitness and personal documents of the
applicants. Other responsibilities include:
· Information,
training and preparation for international adoption.
· Translation,
legalization and authentication of documents application for adoption.
· Processing of
documentation and the record in the country of origin of the adoptee.
· Track record
pushing the adoption procedure.
· Up to applicants
in proceedings relating to the adoption, as soon arriving in the country during
their stay.
Remarks
In implementing international
adoption is the safest way to do it through a ECAIs. This method despite
carrying an extra is the safest because they are the very entities that are
responsible for the paperwork.
