Child safety - Introduction

Children are fragile beings for his inexperience and his desire to explore what surrounds them can suffer many injuries of varying severity. Most of those occurring in children under 4 years are due to accidents in the home.

 

Despite the vulnerability of children, there are some precautions and safety measures can be implemented to reduce the risk of accidents, not only at home but also in the vehicle.

 

Baby Security

 

The main security measures at home for babies are:

 

·  Do not use pillows until they reach at least a year, could cause suffocation.

 

·  Observe the height from the mattress to the top of the bars of the crib, because it should allow the child to asome and drop it.

 

·  The separation between the bars of the crib should not allow the child to fit between them or can enter your head.

 

·  The toys should not small objects that can be off and be ingested by the child.

 

·  Avoid clothing that the baby has ties, buttons, imperdibles or any other object that could be dangerous.

 

·  Check that in the cradle there is no solid object that could lead to the mouth as the nut of a slope, pieces of food or coins.

 

·  Caring for the water temperature in which they bathed.

 

·  Maintain hygiene of everything that surrounds the baby including those objects which it is involved and can take their mouths.

 

Safety for Children

 

Security measures in the home for children are:

 

·  Zoom their reach all toxic products such as drugs, cosmetics and cleaning products.

 

·  Protect the stairs with some type of gate that prevents them from the passage.

 

·  Avoid plants have toxic or poisonous berries and plants or flowers that could be attractive to children.

·  Caring that toys can not be broken up into pieces too small or can be sharpened.

 

·  Remove any furniture or object close to the windows, which can allow the child to asome them.

·  The plugs should be protected to prevent them entering the fingers.

 

·  Caring for the placement of some appliances like irons while being used, because if the cable is available to the child may pose a danger.

 

·  The balconies, terraces and windows should be closed for devices not accessible to children.

 

·  In the balconies and terraces separation of the bars should not allow the child to fit between them nor can enter your head.

 

·  In the balconies and terraces should not be any object on which the child can rise and look.

 

·  They avoided as much as possible all the ornaments and heavy objects that can be achieved by the child and cause harm.

 

·  Furniture and low tables with sharp corners that should be protected.

 

·  Monitor can not open the door to the street or to stay locked into any stay.

 

From the age of 4 children will have a better chance of moving and reasoning. This will help avoid certain dangers. But on the other hand, their increased mobility, stature and strength will make you more vulnerable to other kinds of accidents.

 

Security in the car

 

Currently to travel in vehicles is mandatory that the children be placed in car seats or some special elevators adapted to their weight, size and age:

 

·  Until 2 years: chairs car homologated that are placed on the front or rear seats provided in the opposite direction to the movement of the vehicle.

 

·  Until 3 years: homologated chairs that are placed on the rear seats in the same direction that the movement of the vehicle and properly tied.

 

·  Up to 6 years: chairs that are in accordance with one's own belt from the vehicle.

 

·  Even 12 years elevators tight with belts of the vehicle itself. They are mandatory for any child or adult who does not exceed 1, 35 meters and valid for children and adults who do not measure more than 1, 50 meters.

 

Remarks

 

According to a report submitted by the European Union the leading cause of infant death between 0 and 14 years are the injuries caused by falls, burns, poisoning, suffocation, drowning and traffic accidents. These statistics include cases of homicide and suicide.

 

Of all the leading cause of death is traffic accidents. All these dangers are causing countless injuries as well as fractures and injuries which can have serious consequences differently.
