The tests conducted with the prototype
vaccine RTS, S / AS02D malaria carried out by a Spaniard in
Mozambique have shown the ability of this vaccine to immunize children under
one year against the disease.
The study, which is in its
second phase, is done by scientists at the Hospital Clinic in Barcelona
and the Ministry of Health of Mozambique through the Center for Research
in Health Manhiça (CISM) in the African country.
The survey results show that
the efficacy of this vaccine is not as high as that of medicines for children
but could save millions of lives affected by this disease transmitted by
mosquitoes.
