The earthquake that struck on
August 15 Peru finally ended with 513 dead and thousands wounded. It
reached a strength of 7.9 on the Richter scale. The country has been
plunged into despair and tries to get out ahead. The city has been hardest hit Pisco
that has been virtually destroyed.
Spain besides sending aid to the
debt that was forgiven the Peruvian government. Some of the volunteers
up there and displaced have returned, while others are preparing to go and
organizing projects to assist in rebuilding a country that tries to emerge from
its poverty.
The minimum needs of the
population are met gradually, despite initial difficulties in the
distribution of aid, but there is a long way to be able to resolve the
situation of thousands of people who have been rendered homeless.
