Internet emerges at the
end of the sixties in the USA. In its infancy had a scientific use only in the
nineties and their use is widespread.
The emergence of the Internet
has made a great revolution in the world of technology. It has become a tool
for work, leisure and entertainment, ultimately, a way of life.
Origins
The Internet was born after
several investigations carried out by a group of scientists and
non-governmental agency ARPA (Advanced Research Projects Agency) during
the Cold War.
The main objective of the
research was to get a connection among several computers. With it, researchers
could share resources from different parts of the country.
The biggest drawback was that
there was every researcher should have a computer in his home and a terminal to
be able to communicate over a network, which is expensive.
The solution to the problem
was to remove the terminal and use computers as a server. It is connected in a
network and were located at strategic points.
Evolution
One of the group's ARPA
researchers created a communicaion network called ARPANET consisting of
a system of interconnected networks.
This network has grown
rapidly to become absorbed by the NSF (National Science Foundation). Since then
creates a new computer network for scientific purposes and academics called
NSFNET.
NSFNET became a large
network with a large number of servers (100,000), thanks to its merger with
ARPANET appears the word internet (International Network) and with it
the opening of the network to non-scientific purposes.
In 1993, due to the
appearance of browser World Wide Web (WWW) and the boom in personal computers
in the home, the Internet began to be known worldwide and to be used for all
kinds of purposes.
In 2000, held the so-called
bubble effect, also known as the Internet boom. Thousands of companies,
after knowing the great potential of the network, began investing large sums of
money.
With this investment bubble
began to swell up in 2001, after realizing that the results did not match the
high investment, the bubble burst, leading to the bankruptcy of many Internet
companies.
In Spain
The key date from the
Internet in Spain is 1995 and that is when InfoVía born, better known as
the Spanish Internet. This year is also the boom of suppliers, as a plus
offering Internet services to users. The latter accounted for 0.3% of the total
global Internet users.
The main reason for this low
number of users was the price of the connection, as was done via a modem and
paid for the use of the phone and connection. Another cause was the cost of
computers, which are considered as luxury items.
In 1999 appeared on the
market new companies offering Internet services when he is not charged the
connection. Since then, the number of users has increased dramatically.
Currently, there is a type of
DSL connection where it is not paid by either the connection or for the
time they use the line. This connection has a fixed cost of use, and provides
unlimited more speed.
The emergence of ADSL and the decline in
the price of computers has brought the number of regular users has increased to
7 million or so.
