Islam is a religion of
more faithful in the world today. It is younger than Christianity and Judaism. It
emerged in the seventh century with the prophet
Mohammed.
History
The God of Islam, Allah
and Mohammed is his prophet. He revealed the archangel Gabriel the Holy
Scriptures enshrined in the Koran.
Muhammad is a historical
figure whose existence, like that of Jesus Christ, is tested. It is known that
he was born in Mecca and who died in the year 632 in Medina.
On the death of
the prophet Islam split into several factions, including: Sunni and Shiite.
The latter are those who supported Ali, Muhammad's cousin and son-in-law, as
the legitimate successor to him after his death.
Beliefs
The beliefs and
behaviors of the practitioners of Islam is based on five pillars of faith:
ˇ Respect for the
profession of faith which maintains that "Allah is the only God and his
prophet Muhammad.
ˇ Practice several
times a day prayer looking to Mecca.
ˇ Conducting
charities.
ˇ Ayunar during daylight
hours of Ramadan. This is a month of the lunar calendar.
ˇ Peregrinar at
least once in a lifetime, to Mecca.
Customs
In Islam there are
no priests, communication of the faithful to Allah is straightforward. Their
temples are called mosques and go to them for example to pray on Fridays
in unity.
There are rules on
women's dress, which vary from one country to another, but generally
involve bringing her head covered by a scarf. Regarding food, are
prohibited from pork and alcohol.
Islam is governed
by a different calendar marked by the moon. They have years of 354 and
355 days divided into 12 months of 29 and 30 days.
