Pets (Spain)

Legislation

Spain does not have a common law for the protection of pets. Despite this there are different rules and laws in each autonomous community who seek both to protect these animals as that of those in captivity.

These laws penalize, for example, experimentation, abuse and neglect of animals. Also forcing their owners to register in the census provincial health and to take responsibility for their actions.

The animals also have a Universal Declaration of the Rights of Animals passed in 1978 and subsequently ratified by the UN and UNESCO.
