Phases of the Moon

It is the name that is known to many states that the moon is in its movement around the Earth depending on how reflecting sunlight.

These moon phases also occurring in the planets that are among the Earth and the Sun, as is the case with the first two planets in the Solar System: Mercury and Venus.

New Moon

This is the first of the phases of the moon and takes place when the face of the moon to be seen from the Earth can not be seen because it is between it and the Sun.

Where do you see this moon is when there is a total eclipse of the Sun. It's the Moon which begins counting time spots. Some civilizations began their months when this appeared moon in the sky.

This Moon also receives other names such as novilunio. In antiquity to the new moon was known by the name of Dead Moon.

Fourth growing

This is the phase which is after the new moon and before the full. The moon is reflected in the sky with a semicircle in a period of growth.

At this stage the Earth, Moon and Sun, are located forming a right angle. Moon leaves at 12 noon and crosses the horizon at 12 midnight.

The duration of this moon is about 13 days. The first seven days are called first quarter and the following six second quarter.

Full moon

That moon is likely to be completely illuminated from the ground. At this stage the moon is exactly between the Sun and Earth hence its great luminosity.

It is the moon that marks the middle of the lunar month and occurs at approximately the 14 days of the new moon appears. He was also known as the Full Moon.

Depending on the month in which the moon appears she receives many other names such as Harvest Moon, Moon of the Wolf or Moon egg. These names are from the popular tradition.

Fourth shrinking

This phase occurs after the full moon and before the new one. Like the first quarter is a semicircle, but in this case time is decreasing.

Moon, the Sun and Earth are forming a right angle. The only difference with the fourth growing is that it puts at 12 midnight and sunset is at 12 noon, which can be seen in broad daylight.

Like the first quarter its duration is approximately 13 days. The first phase of this fourth named third quarter and the second quarter quarter.

The moon and the tides

Tides are promotions and low water levels that occur periodically due to the gravitational forces of the Moon on the Earth.

This force is greater when the moon is closer to Earth and less when they are away. These are points where there is the rise of the waters or high tide.

In intermediate points of these increases in the level of water is produced declines in the tides, also known as bajamares.

During the movement of rotation of the Earth, Moon will meet once in the zone nearest and another in the most remote thereby produce two high tides and two bajamares throughout the day.
