Preventive medicine - Introduction

The preventive medicine could be defined as one who acts before they arise disease in order to prevent its occurrence. This concept also includes actions to minimize the impact of the disease or prevent its recurrence.

 

Every day this part of medicine becomes more important and governments spend more money on vaccination campaigns or campaigns aimed at raising awareness and informing people of healthy habits and the unhealthy.

 

Phases of preventive medicine

 

The preventive medicine conducts its operations in three phases or stages that are the primary, secondary and tertiary. Each one focuses on a piece of the prevention of health.

 

This classification is based on the time they are serving, ie prior to the onset of disease, for the emergence of the same in order to prevent its spread, or to mitigate its consequences.

 

Primary prevention

 

It is one that takes place before the disease appears. It consists in building measures to help prevent disease.

 

Within preventive medicine highlighting campaigns or immunization schedules, which serve to immunize the population against the spread of certain viruses or bacteria.

 

Secondary prevention

 

It involves the rapid detection of diseases, epidemiological studies and all actions to prevent the consequences of the disease.

Tertiary prevention

 

The part of preventive medicine designed to reduce or prevent the worsening impact of certain chronic diseases, namely diseases for which there is no cure.

Collective action

 

Within preventive medicine have all those high-profile initiatives taken by governments to promote healthy habits or avoid adverse health behaviors.

Among the preventive measures we are trying to inculcate in the society include:

·  Monitor the quality and composition of food preservation to prevent poisoning.

·  Road safety measures.

Today's society is becoming increasingly concerned for his health and the need to keep a good physical condition that would enable it to enjoy more years of life with better quality.

 

Every day there are more people who decide to maintain healthy habits like carrying a proper diet, physical exercise on a regular basis and go to the doctor to conduct regular reviews.
