Spain is one of the countries
signed the draft of university reform. Before October 1, 2007
universities will have to submit to the Ministry their new catalogs degrees.
Although it will be in 2010
when the system is fully implemented, it is expected that new titles start
Grade taught in the 2008/2009 course.
European Space Education
Since 1998 has been planning
to build a European Higher Education Area. The project evolved up to the
Bologna Declaration of 1999, signed by 30 European states.
The aim is that the
university equivalent and comparable in these countries. It facilitates the
mobility of students and workers.
New credit
system
There will be a new credit
system defined in the Royal Decree 1125/2003. The current credit equals 10
hours of class, but in the new ECTS (European Credits Transfer System)
will be taken into account, in addition to the hours, the time and effort that
the matter requires the student to overcome.
Within the new university
system there three cycles, at the end of which you get an official title:
- First cycle: Grade title.
Grade Title
The title will be earned at
the end of the first degree. It was removed and the
differences between current and Graduate Diploma, Higher and Technical Engineer
and Architect Technical and Superior.
The title will have 240
credits ECTS, spread over no more than 60 credits per academic
yearBut also must allow students to have a part-time basis and can reconcile
with the university work.
Branches of
the titles Grade
On the other hand, should be
attached to each of these five branches of knowledge:
- Social and Legal Sciences.
- Engineering and Architecture.
Structure
titles Grade
Each grade will consist of at
least 60 credits common to the branch of knowledge to which he belongs.
Of these, at least 36 will be linked directly with the materials specified by
the Ministry for each branch. These appropriations should be made between the
first and second year.
The powers may establish practices
protected programs, but must not exceed 60 credits. These practices can
only be performed during the second or third year.
At the end of Grade will
require a job or project, as appropriate, to be an extension of
at least 6 credits and maximum of 30 ECTS.
Universities can also choose
to issue a Certificate of Initial Studies University, which will require
the elimination of at least 120 credits that must be among the 60
appropriations common to the branch chosen.
Title of Master
The official masters will
have a minimum of 60 credits and a maximum of 120 ECTS. Access granted
having exceeded the 240 credits Title Grade. Upon completion will require a job
with a minimum of 6 and maximum of 30 credits.
They also will qualify
students whose title credited overcoming 180 credits, as some European
universities opt for this extension to the Grade titles, but be given a set of
materials for the master to reach 240 credits.
Doctorate degree
The doctoral programs consist
of a theoretical part and other research. The theoretical part will be
to complete a master officer or 60 credits from different masters. The investigation
period will lead to the submission of a thesis.
To access the training period
required the same requirements as in the case of the master, that is,
possession of a Grade title. To access the investigation period is necessary to
overcome the training, and in any case prove overcoming 300 credits.
Remarks
The current 2009/2010
will be the last in which seats are offered to initiate studies Diploma,
Graduate, or Senior Engineer and Technical Architect or Superior. But for
anyone who is already studying these qualifications, there will be a transition
period that allows complete their education normally.
