Revision of the minimum wage

The Ministry of Labor, the CEOE (Spanish Confederation of Business Organizations) and the unions met to discuss the increase in the SMI (Minimum Wage Interprofessional). Although the purpose of unions was occurring an automatic review of the same in accordance with the rise in prices, the proposal was not accepted.

The current minimum wage in Spain is € 570.60, well below that of other EU countries such as Luxembourg where around 1500 €. Workers' organizations intend to be closer to the recommendations of the European Social Charter, which indicates that it should be 60% of the average wage.

Although by 2008, the minimum wage will reach € 600.00, has not yet managed to sign union initiatives that would make that will rise in coming years until the nearly 900 €.
