The tourist class syndrome

It is a disorder that affects people who perform long-duration air travel. It can lead to a deep vein thrombosis and cause death or chronic inflammation and pain in the legs, in the long run. This is known as postflebítico syndrome.

The syndrome of economy class is the emergence of a blood clot in the lower limbs due to poor blood circulation that marks so long to be seated position.

Causes which cause

The main reasons favoring the emergence of clots are:

·  Inmovilidad over long periods.

·  Space reduced seat.

·  Low air pressure in the cabins.

·  Low oxygen levels.

Some scholars believe that the stress of passengers and air pollution can also be cause of this evil.

Symptoms

When this syndrome affects a person its main manifestations are pain, swelling and redness in the area of the lower limbs where the clot.

People most likely to suffer this disorder are those older than 40 years, those with circulation problems and / or varices, smokers, the obese and pregnant women.

The risk of thrombosis does not end when it reaches its destination, but there is when it starts. For example, several studies show that can cause even when one month has passed.

Prevention

Some of the major measures to prevent thrombosis are:

·  Purchase tickets for business class where there is more space between the seats.

·  Using compression socks for the blood to flow more easily and not cause clots. They can be a model sock or waist.

·  Take an aspirin before the flight and during the two days of arrival.

·  Levantarse and stretch their legs every hour and a half, approximately, to activate blood circulation.

·  Do not keep her legs crossed, so that the blood flow without difficulty.

·  Avoid tight clothes during the trip, and that hinders movement.

·  Being well hydrated by drinking plenty of water before, during and after the flight

·  Avoid alcoholic beverages.

If passengers have any problems with traffic or have suffered injuries in the lower extremities, should consult a doctor before making a trip of long duration.

Antiphospholipid Syndrome

Those affected tcon syndrome of economy class have many chances of contracting also antiphospholipid syndrome, also known as syndrome of blood sticky or Hughes.

It is a disruption of the movement that causes occurring clots in the blood vessels. This is due to the emergence of antiphospholipid antibodies that attack the phospholipids, leading to an autoimmune disease.

Remarks

While this syndrome is closely linked to journeys by plane, also can be caused by any type of travel or quiescence over a long period of time.

This disorder results in approximately 30% of those who suffer from dying. There are also cases without sequelae or that have resulted in chronic inflammation and pain in the legs.
