Types of grapes

The grape is the main raw material with which the wine is produced. There are different types of grapes which have some characteristics that are transmitted to the wine.

 

There are two types of grapes to produce wine grapes and white inks that give rise to red wine and white respectively. The pink wine is produced with the mixture of both.

 

Red wine grapes

 

The main types of grapes used for production of red wines in Spain are:

 

·  Brancellao: A high quality but its production is limited by what is in danger of disappearing. This is a very typical type of grape areas of Galicia.

 

·  Cabernet-Sauvignon: This French grape worldwide. It has a very intense color. It is present in most areas of Spain, but especially in the Penedés, Navarra and La Ribera del Duero.

 

·  Cariñena: is the main grape wines Catalans, but also used in Aragon and La Rioja. In the latter place is called Mazuela. It complements perfectly with the Garnacha.

 

·  Cencibel: name that is known to the tempranillo grape in some areas of Spain.

·  Syrah: are those of Australia and the area of the Rhone and Persian origin. In Spain alone is in Catalonia and Castilla La Mancha.

 

·  Tempranillo: it is more characteristic of the grape Spain. It has a fruity flavor that is seen easily in young wines. It is ideal for the upbringing by his little oxidation.

 

·  Ink Toro: it is not very productive and leads to aromatic wines of high quality. It is a variety of Tempranillo.

 

White wine grapes

 

The main types of grapes used for white wines in Spain are:

 

·  Airen: it is the most abundant in Spain. This is the most commonly used in wine production manchegos and with a single grape. It produces wines with an alcohol content of between 12% and 14%.

 

·  Albariño: occurs on the Atlantic coast of Galicia and leads to high-quality wines. It has a fruity flavor and sweet. In recent years has increased its production.

 

·  Albillo: no outside Spain and occurs almost in Madrid, Avila and Galicia. It gives the wine a smooth ride because of the high number of glycerin it possesses.

 

·  Chardonnay: white grape is the most appreciated. It comes from Burgundy in France and resulted in wines with scents smoked. It is a variety admitted in the vast majority of Appellations of Origin.

 

·  Garnacha Blanca: wines produced from these grapes are high gradation alcoholic. Its production is widespread in Spain, especially in Tarragona, Zaragoza and Teruel.

 

·  Godello: it is characteristic of the province of Orense. It has an acid taste and a great power aromatic. In recent years it has substantially increased its production.

 

·  Macabeo is used for the production of champagne and white wines of RiojaIt is advisable to its aging in oak because of low oxidation possessed. He was also called Viura.

 

·  Malvasia: type of wine grape that produces much bittersweet. It comes from Greece and is spread mainly by Valencia, the Canary Islands and Zamora. In Catalonia is known as Subirat-Parent.

 

·  Muscat of Alexandria: has a very sweet taste and is usually consumed as table grapes. It abounds mostly in Malaga and Valencia.

 

·  Palomino: is the basic grape wines of Jerez. It cultivation has spread to other regions due to their high productivity. Outside Andalusia named Jerez.

 

·  Parellada: is the finest grapes and more difficult to cultivate. It comes from the land Catalan. It is basic in the development of wineries.

 

·  Pinot Noir: this variety was grown in Gaul after the Roman conquest. It is a basic grape production wineries despite being white ink.

 

·  Sauvignon Blanc: French grape whose crop has been exported to several countries in the world including Spain. It has great quality and is very good for the wineries.

 

·  Treixadura: is the traditional grape wine Ribeiro. This is one of the most aromatic of Galicia.

 

·  Verdejo: it is one of the best white grape of Spain. It is used for the development of young wines with fruity flavor.

 

·  Viura: name given to the grape Macabeo. It is used mainly for the development of wineries. It is a grape variety that has little oxidation.

 

·  Xarel.lo: it is one of the three grapes typical in the development of champagne along with Macabeo and Parellada.
