Types of NGOs

The NGOs are mainly aimed at assisting the people in the most urgent situations. Because the requirements can be of various kinds, the NGOs can be classified according to the purpose.

 

The work of all these supplements. Thus, the work of NGOs in charge of health care would be meaningless without those who are responsible for bringing food to the same population.

 

Humanitarian aid

 

Most of the NGOs were responsible for providing humanitarian aid in the most disadvantaged, where shortages of food and water leads to thousands of people dying every day from hunger and malnutrition.

Gender

 

Women represent one of the weakest sectors of the population, especially when one takes into account the lack of rights and freedoms that still suffer in many countries.

NGO representatives

 

·  International Red Cross: is the oldest NGOs, born in 1863.. It consists of the International Committee of the Red Cross, which is responsible for the care for war victims.

 

·  Greenpeace: was founded in Canada in 1971. Supports protection of the environment through better use of natural resources, improved expenditure management of water and better protection of animals.

 

·  OXFAM: serving since 1956. Create economic development projects, covering the needs that occur in cases of emergency, is releasing solidarity campaigns and promotes fair trade. It is one of 13 NGOs dependent Oxfam International.

 

·  Action Aid: it is an NGO founded 25 years ago that seeks to raise development projects for the integration of marginalized people in the social, political and economic life of their country.

 

·  Medecins Sans Frontieres: its aims are to provide medical aid and getting drugs to those countries where they are most needed, due to hunger, lack of hygiene and the large number of infectious diseases.

 

·  Caritas: unlike the others, is not non-denominational but belongs to the Catholic Church. Its work focuses on care for all people who suffer marginalization and social exclusion, as well as denunciation of the situations of inequality and injustice.

 

Remarks

 

There are too many centers and solidarity associations operating in Spain. Their work is related to the homeless, drug addicts, alcoholics and any other sector that suffers from poverty and marginalization.
