United Nations Agencies

The United Nations Organization has launched a lo largo de la historia numerous programs and aid funds to meet some urgent humanitarian needs.

 

Many of these funds have become willing originally consolidated in institutions like UNICEF or WHO.

 

UNICEF

 

It was created in 1946 to meet the needs of children from World War II. Today has expanded its scope to all matters relating to children.

 

Funding for UNICEF depends on voluntary donations, mainly those from governments. It has headquarters in 6 countries and representative committees at 37.

 

FAO

 

It is the United Nations Organization for Agriculture and Hunger. It was created in 1945 with the goal of eradicating hunger. Their actions and interests focus on rural areas, which constitutes more than 70% of the world's population.

 

The main body of the FAO Conference, which meets every two years. They elect a governing council composed of representatives of 49 countries that is renewed every three years.

 

WHO

 

The World Health Organization was founded in 1948. Its objective is that all people should enjoy the highest possible level of health. It is a health agency that serves global reference.

 

Proposes the needs of medical research and policies needed at any given moment. It is also responsible for observing and recording information relating to health globally.

 

UNHCR

 

The High Commissioner of the United Nations for Refugees is a body created in 1950 in order to protect and defend the interests and rights of refugees.

 

Collaborates with the various countries to accept refugees. Protects the decision that these people are not sent back to their country while the situation remains adverse and helps them to return when conditions improve.

 

Fuerzas de Paz

 

The Blue Helmets go to those countries that have left an armed process to help pacify the area and provide assistance to civilians. They are also responsible for monitoring compliance with the stipulations in the peace process.
