Some things are recalled and
remain long in the memory, however forget other very easily. The main reason
for that to happen one thing or another is often the attention or interest
contained in the event.
In some cases, do not forget
things, but not actually have never saved in memory. Although it is also
possible that if we have been stored, but it is not possible to
recover.
Process
memorization
The memory is one of the most
fascinating intellectual capacities of the human brain. At first the
information is stored in short-term memory. This does not happen with
everything you hear, see or feel. Only a few things will have enough interest
to merit being remembered:
· The resulting
novel or striking and thus capture the attention.
· Those who received
first. For example in a list of names is easier to recall the first to the
following.
· Those that are
associated or related to something that was already known in advance.
But most of the things that
are kept initially not get to move into long-term memory. For that to
happen it must happen one or more of the following assumptions:
· The facts or
information should be repeated often like the color of the car
park next door.
· The information
learned relates to complementing other somehow.
· The data, or in
fact relates to sense something very significant. For example, recalls certain
odors as it relates to important people.
Why is
forgotten
Some things are forgotten
because they are left to use for long periods of time, others are not learned
the right way.
If memorizes a list of names
and dates on the sole basis of rote learning, ie mechanically and
without the intervention of reasoning, in a short time such information will be
lost.
Sometimes the information is
not forgotten, but never recorded entirely in memory in the long term. This
happens because not enough arouses interest, not the eye and does not make any
meaning.
In other cases the
information was not forgotten, but it's hard to remember. This
fact tends to be because at the time it was made storage an association wrong
or different from that goal.
Loss of memory
We talk about memory loss
when difficulties arise to remember previously learned skills or remember
events, people or data from the past.
Memory loss is called
scientifically amnesia. The causes are very different and the seriousness of
it. Usually we talk about memory loss as a consequence of advancing
age.
Amnesia
The amnesia involves
abnormal memory loss due to an illness or disorder. This can be more or less
pronounced and be permanent or temporary. According to forget what
distinguishes different types of amnesia:
· Anterograde
Amnesia: the individual is unable to fix in their minds the facts which occur
every day. From the time of injury and unable to remember the things that
happen.
· Retrograde
Amnesia: inability to recall the events of the past that were perfectly
memorized.
· Global Amnesia: inability or
difficulty in remembering both the facts of the past and the present.
Causes of
amnesia
The amnesia can have
different causes:
· Diseases such as Alzheimer's
or senile dementia. In these cases the loss of memory is progressive and
definitive.
· Brain Injuries caused by
accidents, tumors or any other condition involving damage to the brain
structures.
·
·Illness of traumatic
events. In these cases there is no physical cause amnesia. Generally just
forget to do with the incident as a defense mechanism. Memory loss is
temporary.
·
Because of a strong trauma or stroke. Normally recover in hours
or days, depending on the severity.
· The consumption of
harmful substances can cause brain damage causing memory loss. Alcohol
is responsible for such a syndrome that involves loss of memory.
