World Alzheimer's Day is celebrated
on September 21 each year since it was instituted by the World Health
Organization and the International Federation of Alzheimer's.
According to official data it
is estimated that in Spain there are currently 800,000 affected by this
degenerative disease that is causing the gradual loss of memory.
This celebration is used by the
associations to organize workshops and roundtables which describes the current
situation is publicized disease and demanding aid for those affected and their
families.
Moreover, in 2008 it is
expected to open in Salamanca the State Center for Alzheimer's reference.
It will offer services
for permanent residence and enhance the research of a disease that currently
has no cure.
